Kathmandu: The meeting of the House of Representatives has been adjourned until 11:00 am on Tuesday, Jestha 12, after proceedings on Thursday were disrupted by strong protests and sloganeering from opposition lawmakers.

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal continued the House proceedings despite ongoing obstruction by opposition parties, who had surrounded the well of parliament demanding the presence of Prime Minister Balendra Shah.

The opposition insisted that the Prime Minister should be present in parliament for the scheduled monthly question-and-answer session, arguing that accountability to the House must be maintained.

Despite the protests, Speaker Aryal allowed the government to move forward with legislative business. During the session, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle presented the “Alternative Development Finance Mobilization Bill, 2082,” which was subsequently passed by a majority in the House.

Opposition lawmakers did not participate in the voting process and continued their protests throughout the proceedings.

Soon after the bill was endorsed, Speaker Aryal announced that the next meeting of the House of Representatives would convene on Jestha 12.

The latest parliamentary disruption comes amid rising tensions between the government and opposition parties over Prime Minister Balen’s repeated absence from parliamentary discussions and accountability sessions.
